Sparta WI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation into the death of a man near Sparta Sunday morning.

The Monroe County 911 Communication Center received a call about a disturbance where three victims suffered injuries from an edged weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Law enforcement met the suspect outside the home and the suspect had a rifle. He suffered a self–inflicted gunshot wound before emergency personnel arrived. Officers then arrested the man.  An ambulance took the suspect and one of the victims to a hospital, the second victim was transported by GundersenAir. All of the victims involved suffered serious injuries.

Officials found the third victim inside the home and pronounced the person dead at the scene. Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time according to the sheriff’s office.
